In 1985 I was the Director of a Mini-Micronesia Paper Conference held on Guam, during which paper was made from breadfruit fiber gathered from the jungle and cleaned in the ocean; dyed with natural plant dyes; cut into strips, spun into thread, and woven into paper fabric ( known in Japan as shifu).
