Cellulose fiber was abundant in the jungles of Guam, and no plants were killed from collecting fiber. After the banana plant produces fruit, the stocks are cut back and new plants grow from suckers. Banana stock fiber is similar to celery, and it produces a crispy paper with a lovely sheen. Fibrous plants used for traditional weaving can also be used for papermaking.
