We chose to respond to the blue flower. The blue flower was the symbol for the German Romantic movement. It originated in the works of the German poet, Novalis (pen name), and eventually came to represent bittersweet longing for what is unattainable. My stitching explores migration and immigration...a continuance of blue sky across the ocean...a longing for home and a longing for infinity. The format of the work is loosely based on Fraktur writing, Pennsylvania German illuminated manuscripts.
