Through five grants from the Guam Council on the Arts & Humanities, matched by the NEA (1981-82), I researched traditional Japanese papermaking (washi) and oceanic/tropical methods of fiber preparation. Traditional Japanese and Oceanic cultures had an intimate relationship with nature--drawing sustenance from the earth. Their inspiration was mine.
